Call on SEAChange Roundtable session
2011/02/28

A representative from Ricoh Company Ltd. and Fujitsu Limited participated in a roundtable session hosted by the South East Asian Corporate Leaders Initiative on Climate Change (SEAChange). SEAChange is prepared to establish as a coalition of global corporations which seeks for long term cloimate change policy in South East Asia. In the session, 25 CEOs and senior executives from ASEAN, UK, Hong Kong and Japanese companies actively took part in the discussion on the issue of business chances regarding the transition to a low carbon society in South East Asia and compalability between economic development and low-carbnisation.

 

Asia Climate Leader Symposium - Towards a Low Carbon Society -
2010/12/13

The Japan-CLP invited Samsung Global Environment Research (Korea), Climate Change Center (secretariat of Korea CCBF),
Cathay Pacific Airways(Hong Kong), and Huawei Technologies (China) to discuss how businesses can contribute to tackling
climate change through business operation while expanding business in Asia.

During the panel discussion, participants exchanged opinions on topics including the challenges and risks Asian companies face in building a low carbon society,
the difference in consumer understanding and behavior on climate change, and the possibility of future collaboration

After the symposium, a joint statement was released by the Japan-CLP members, Cathay Pacific Airways and Huawei Technologies to accentuate future collaboration.

Dialogue Session with Environment Minister Matsumoto
2010/10/06

On October 6th, members of the Japan Climate Leaders' Partnership met with Environment Minister Matsumoto and top officials of the Ministry of the Environment including
Kondo Senior Vice-Minister of Environment, Hidaka Parliamentary Secretary for Environment, Kobayashi Administrative Vice-Minister.
Environment Minister Matsumoto welcomed the activites of the Japan-CLP, and encouraged further actions to exhibit Japan's leadership in the environmental technology.

Further discussions on companies' role in promoting emissions reduction in the domestic sector,  the necessity of discussion between the industrial community
and the government on short and longterm climate change policies that take industry characteristics into consideration, and the importance of government leadership in the international community were carried out.

Dialogue Session with Sustainability Management Forum
2010/09/28

On September 28th, the Japan Climate Leaders' Partnership met with member companies of the Sustainability Management Forum, a research/study group coordinated by
Professor Kokubu of Kobe University that examines leading environmental technologies and environmental managtement. The Japan-CLP presented its recommendation and
actively exchanged opinions with the Forum's members in Osaka.

Call on Korea CCBF
2010/06/24

A representative from Ricoh Company Ltd. participated in a seminar hosted by the Korea CCBF to present Ricoh's actions on climate change and discussed the different challenges Japanese and Korean companies are facing in attaining climate change target.
Questions from Korean companies demonstrated high interests to Japanese companies' high technological capability and leadership in promoting actions to tackle climate change.

The invitation came from the Korea CCBF, a Korean business leaders’coalition launched in 2009 promoting the transition to a low carbon society, that has a membership of 33 companies including Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics.

On June 2th, the Japan Climate Leaders' Partnership met with Japan International Cooperation Agency to disuss Recommendation 7,
on constructive cooperation with developing countries.

Issues and challenges on Japanese companies' contribution to through public-private partnership were actively discussed. 

Dialogue Session with NGOs
2010/05/25

On May 24th, the Japan Climate Leaders' Partnership (Japan-CLP) met with NGOs working for climate change. NGOs such as WWF, Institute for Sustainable Energy Policies(ISEP),
Japan Environmental Lawyers Federation, and Climate Network participated in discussing Reccomendation 6, on the establishment of effective and just economic and political systems
based on the principle of burden sharing.

Dialogue Session with Three Ministers of the Cabinet
2010/04/28
On April 26, 2010, Japan-CLP carried out a dialogue with Yoshito SENGOKU State Minister in Charge of National Strategy, Masayuki NAOSHIMA Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and Environmental Minister Sakihito OZAWA. In the meeting that lasted for an hour, Minister Sengoku welcomed the establishment of Japan-CLP and its recommendation, under the situation where a new growth model must be designed with green innovation as its axis. Minister Naoshima said that the principle of “sustainable low carbon society", which is also the title of Japan-CLP's recommendation, is important that he is interested in pursuing the idea of the recommendation for the new growth strategy as far as possible. Furthermore, Minister Ozawa, who attended Japan-CLP's symposium in December 2009, stated that he is willing to incorporate a wide range of opinion during policy designing, and showed great interest in eco-active consumers and Japan-CLP's views on how businesses may capture cost of burden.
Five Member Companies of the Japan-CLP Release "Our Recommendation"

On April 2, 2010, five member companies of the Japan-CLP (Aeon Co.,Ltd., Fujitsu Limited, Ricoh Company, Ltd., SAP Japan Co., Ltd., and Tokyo Steel Manufacturing Co. Ltd.) released "Towards a Sustainable Low Carbon Society: Our Recommendation”(English). This recommendation lays out twelve recommendations from a business perspective, providing the outlook and strategy for putting “Five Principles for a Sustainable Low Carbon Society” into practice. Recommendation 1, 2, and 6 is supplemented with discussion papers(in Japanese only) intended to facilitate further discussion.
Tokyo Steel Joins Japan-CLP

Tokyo Steel Manufacturing has joined the Japan Climate Leaders' Partnership (Japan-CLP). Japan-CLP is now comprised of eight companies, spearheading the transition to a low carbon society.
Japan-CLP Symposium 2009

The Japan-CLP Symposium 2009 was held on December 3, 2009. In addition to representatives from Japan-CLP member companies, Mie ASAOKA from Kiko Network, Professor Kiyoshi KUROKAWA from National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, Yosuke KONDO, Parliamentary Secretary for Economy, Trade and Industry, and Tetsuro FUKUYAMA, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs participated in the panel discussion and provided input on Japan-CLP's recommendation (draft). In addition, Mr. OZAWA, Minister of Environment joined the symposium by addressing the crowd. The outcomes from the panel discussion as well as the results of the survey conducted among 300 symposium participants will be reflected in the final recommendation scheduled for release in late March, 2010.
Japan-CLP to carry out Symposium 2009

The Japan Climate Leaders’Partnership (Japan-CLP), a business coalition that regards spearheading the transition to a sustainable low carbon society to be a business opportunity, will be holding a symposium on December 3, 2009. Japan-CLP will be presenting "Our Common Vision", along with the draft of recommendations for public comment. More information on the symposium can be found here (only in Japanese).
Obayashi and SAP Japan Join Japan-CLP

Two new companies,Obyashi Corporation and SAP Japan Co., Ltd. have joined the Japan Climate Leaders' Partnership(Japan-CLP). Japan-CLP now comprises of seven leading companies spearheading the transition to a low carbon society.
Dialogue Session with Environmental Minister OZAWA

Five launching member companies of the Japan Climate Leaders' Partnership (Japan-CLP) met with Environmental Minister OZAWA, Environmental Vice Minister TAJIMA, and Deputy Secretary KOBAYASHI on October 15, 2009. The meeting focused on Japan-CLP's "Our Common Vision", and future activities for a sustainable, low carbon society.The meeting was invited by the Minister himself, who welcomed Japan-CLP's principle of considering the transition to a sustainable low carbon society to be a business opportunity.
Launch of Japan Climate Leaders’Partnership (Japan-CLP)

Five major Japanese blue-chip companies have launched the Japan Climate Leaders’ Partnership (Japan-CLP), the first Japanese business coalition holding a common goal to build a sustainable, low carbon society. Today, the Japan-CLP has released “Towards a Sustainable Low Carbon Society : Our Common Vision” “Towards a Sustainable Low Carbon Society : Our Common Vision”, which lays out a sense of urgency on climate change from a business perspective, and presents a promise to tackle climate change.
Japan-CLP is comprised of five companies from various sectors such as manufacturing, retailing, and finance, that consider climate change to be one of the major management issues. Perceiving sustainable, low carbon society to be the precondition for future economic activities, Japan-CLP, with Asia as base for action, will communicate proactive messages to accelerate changes in society
